You have a laser printer, why not print on water slide decal paper? I have done this on my Warmoth stratocaster. I just gave it a custom name with as close to a Fender font I can come up with. Have you tried Krylon clear? I use this clear on my model outdoor trains. I just use the UV resistant kind. Not necessary for the guitar. Comes in flat, satin, matt or gloss. Acrylic used a lot by artists.

@@littlebritain64 I'm not sure if that would work, but someone in the comments said they buy packing tape at dollar tree, because it's thinner. There's always actual water slide printer paper, but I like this method, because it's cheap, and I can make a logo with materials I already have.

You say ‘complete a look’, but if using a brand, that completes the look of a counterfeit. It really does. Especially when you say making it look ‘more legit’ like a traditional Stratocaster. It’s to make something look like something it isn’t. Which is a fake.

@@TomPetersonRefuseReuse I didn’t say it’d fool anyone, nor that you were trying to. I said I don’t see how this makes it more legit. Personally, it’s never bothered me that my homemade guitars don’t have anything on the headstock. But if I did put one on, I’d want it to be a logo of my own design. That, to me, would make it legit

    •  4 дня назад

@@TomPetersonRefuseReuse You can’t put a logo you don’t own on anything and claim it is just for the look. That’s how people justify buying Chibsons. And then saying that it looks more legit completely undermines your point. You’re trying to make it look more like the real thing. Your intention is irrelevant and it justifies others doing it for the wrong reason. If you use a brand logo that doesn’t belong to the guitar you put it on, you’re creating a fake, a counterfeit, however you dress it up.

@@TomPetersonRefuseReuse I’d be curious to know if this method really works well with inkjets, magazines, photos printed on photo paper by home printers, etc., as well as using color vs black. Would also be helpful to know how well each type of these transfers adhere and what it looks like on a variety of finishes like poly, satin, open pore satin, nitro, tongue oil, etc. I like this idea - not just for logos and written phrases, but to add pictures of objects/heroes/loved ones and/or abstract designs. To accommodate large images that would take up most or all of the guitar body, you could use a large aluminum baking pan for the water to accommodate bigger (you could get a turkey sized one vs. smaller sizes) or even apply the image in several sections if you’re precise enough to keep everything straight and consistent or use painter’s tape to make a line guide. At any rate, this is a fun idea! I think I saw someone do this once before, but nobody ever verified all of the above. Maybe you can make a follow up video to test a variety of finishes - you don’t even need guitars to do this sort of test if you have some scrap pieces of maple, mahogany painted with each type of common finish. If you’re looking for content ideas, it would be extremely helpful for people looking for inexpensive ideas to mod their guitars. Thanks!
